The New Hampshire Guild of Catholic Healthcare Professionals has opened nominations for the Saint Martin de Porres award, which is the most prestigious recognition a Catholic healthcare professional can receive in the Diocese of Manchester. Martin de Porres was a lay Dominican brother who worked tirelessly to care for the poor and sick in Lima, Peru. Any Catholic healthcare professional in the Diocese of Manchester is eligible. The purpose of the Saint Martin de Porres Award is to recognize an individual who has exemplified the virtues of Catholic healthcare in her or his career, recognizing that the recipient has gone above and beyond the call to deliver Christ-centered care. The nomination criteria are: 1) Nominee is a health care professional; 2) Nominee is a Catholic in good standing; 3) Nominee is a champion of Catholic healthcare in her or his work; 4) Nominee shows compassion for and selfless dedication to the sick: 5) Nominee demonstrates care for the whole person—mind, body, and spirit; and 6) Nominee reflects the love of God in caring for the sick. The winner receives the award at the annual “White” Mass for healthcare workers, which is scheduled at Saint Joseph Cathedral in Manchester on Wednesday, April 15th at 6:00 p.m. with the Most Reverend Peter A. Libasci celebrating. The White Mass is named for the white lab coats and uniforms worn by many healthcare providers. Bishop Libasci will present the award at a reception immediately following the White Mass. The deadline for nominations is February 28, 2020. Please submit nominations directly to [email protected].
